In times of distress and in every-day life, it is important for us all to have resources to turn to in order to deepen our understanding of ourselves and our connection to the world. This group is for anyone of any age who wishes to learn more about accessing inner strength and resources that are available to us all. We will look to many different sources to guide us toward wellness, wholeness and healing. Thanks to generous community donations, we are able to offer this group at no cost.

Adolescent Support Group (Students, ages 14-18)

Cost:  No Charge
Dates:  Wednesdays, June 5th – 26th
Time:  5:30-7:00 pm

Do y0u struggle to get through the day-to-day challenges of being an adolescent? Are you experiencing:

Come participate in a group that focuses on managing difficult feelings by developing healthy coping mechanisms, cultivating motivation, goal setting, increasing self-esteem, decreasing irrational thoughts, identifying personal needs, and learning how to communicate effectively. Grant Announcement:  Thank you to The Denver Foundation! We are happy to announce that the center has received a $7,000 grant from The Denver Foundation, helping to support the center’s low cost mental health programming for the uninsured and underinsured. Normal responses to trauma can include:

• Fear, anxiety, worry, apprehension
• Depression, tearfulness, numbness
• Anger, irritability
• Trouble sleeping
• Loss of appetite
• Difficulty concentrating
• Feelings of powerlessness
• Withdrawal

Steps to healing:

• Remind yourself that your symptoms are normal reactions to abnormal circumstances.
• Talk about your feelings, thoughts and reactions with people you trust.
• Create a feeling of safety in your immediate surroundings.
• Resume normal activities and routines as soon as possible.
• Get proper rest, nutrition and exercise.
• Avoid excess use of alcohol and caffeine.
• Become aware of your emotional triggers and learn how to cope with them.
• Be patient with yourself. Healing will happen, but can take time.
• Seek professional counseling if symptoms become more severe or seem to be lasting too long.

To help the children in your life:

• Encourage children and adolescents to talk about their feelings and concerns.
• Answer children’s questions with age-appropriate responses.
• Assure children of their safety and let them know that such events are very rare.
• Maintain routines and ensure that children get adequate sleep and good nutrition.
• Spend more time with your children and assure them of your love.
• Limit media exposure to the event.

This four week parenting group is for parents of young children. The class provides tools and techniques that help parents develop respectful, healthy relationships with their children. Classes utilize Love & Logic Parenting techniques, 1-2-3 Magic and other parenting approaches.

Grief Support Group:  Coping With Grief During the Holidays

Dates:  Mondays, Nov. 26th – Dec. 17th, 2012
Time:  6:00 – 7:00pm

This four week grief group will provide support to help individuals through the stress of bereavement during the holidays. It will provide education & support to aid adults through the grieving process in an accepting, confidential setting. Having the support of others who know what you are experiencing, in a group setting, can bring great comfort. We are able to provide this group at no charge thanks to a generous community donation.
